KELLY LIN

Praised for her magnetic, captivating, and inspiring interpretation, Chinese-Canadian conductor enjoys an active performing career across Canada and internationally. Equally comfortable with repertoires ranging from classical to contemporary, she is an advocate for under-represented voice, and she is the founder and Artistic Director of Ensemble Lagom. 

As the recipient of the Hnatyshyn Foundation – Christa and Franz-Paul Decker Fellowship in Conducting, Kelly obtained her master’s degree in orchestral conducting from the Schulich School of Music where her mentors include Alexis Hauser and Guillaume Bourgogne. She also holds a bachelor and master’s degree in piano performance from McGill University where her mentors include Sara Laimon and Marina Mdivani. Kelly is the recipient of numerous scholarships, including a full scholarship from McGill University. She has also refined her conducting skills with mentors such as Rafael Payare, Marin Alsop, James Ross, Alexander Shelley, Giuseppe Montesano, Otto Tausk, Jonathan Girard, Brian Current, and Kirk Trevor.

Kelly has worked with professional orchestras and ensembles across Canada and internationally, and performed in major music festivals across Canada such as Toronto Summer Music, Ottawa Chamberfest, Biglake Festival, 21 Stops Music Festival, etc. Recent engagements include participating in the National Arts Centre Orchestra Mentorship Program, Vancouver Symphony Institute, and Hatch x Continuum Contemporary Music Program as conducting fellow, conducting concerts with Ensemble Obiora, Ensemble Lagom, Hatch x Continuum Ensemble, McGill Symphony Orchestra, and McGill Contemporary Music Ensemble, serving as assistant and cover conductor to Holly Mathieson for Symphony Nova Scotia, and to Guillaume Bourgogne for the Société de musique contemporaine de Québec and Ensemble Cairn in France.
